Review: this is my ‘Next Keyboard’ for iPhone

Next Keyboard 1.0 for iOS teaser black closeup

In my December 2014 preview of Next Keyboard I wrote the app had the potential to become “the first iOS keyboard done right”.

What started out as the most funded app project on Kickstarter by Toronto-based award-winning studio Tiny Hearts Apps has become a reality.

I’m pleased to report that Next Keyboard is now available for download in the App Store.

Rather than mindlessly pile features one on top of the other like many other developers do, Next enables efficient typing in a stylish environment that’s easy on the eyes, without distracting you from the task at hand.

It’s got everything you’ve come to expect from a software keyboard, including predictive typing, lightning fast editing, playful stickers and colorful themes, instant access to all the emojis you love, including stickers, and much more.

I’ve spent some quality hands-on time with Next Keyboard, here’s what I found…. Read the rest of this post here

Apple working on fuel cell tech that could give devices weeklong battery life

MacBook Air 2014

Apple continues to show interest in using hydrogen fuel cell technology, as evidenced in its latest patent filing. On Thursday, the United States Patent and Trademark Office published a patent titled “Fuel Cell System to Power a Portable Computing Device.”

The invention appears to be, at least initially, targeted at the MacBook, as the filing mentions MagSafe several times. But last month, the British firm Intelligent Energy proved the tech can be shrunken down, by showing off an iPhone with a hydrogen fuel cell…. Read the rest of this post here

Rotating bezel on Samsung’s new Gear S2 smartwatch shown on video

Smsung Gear S2 rotating bezel teaser 001

Two days ago, Samsung officially unveiled its new smartwatch lineup: the Gear S2, Gear S2 classic and the Gear S2 with 3G connectivity.

The new lineup from Samsung appears to stack up surprisingly well against the Apple Watch: both smartwatches are premium built and feature easily changeable bands, sleek software, fitness and heart rate tracking and more.

But whereas the Apple Watch uses the Digital Crown for navigating its user interface, Samsung has opted for a rotating bezel that “gets better with every turn,” a feature seen on some traditional watches.

Coupled with “the revolutionary circular user interface,” as they’re calling the Gear S2’s Tizen operating system, the rotating bezel appears to be just as precise, novel and interesting as the Apple Watch’s rotating crown…. Read the rest of this post here

Bose SoundLink Bluetooth Speaker III brings the party to your people

Bose Soundlink III

Now that we have so many choices for our music streaming options, we have to figure out how we are going to transmit those audio waves to our ears. You may want to keep your music private by using headphones, or share your sound with others via a nice quality speaker.

If your speaker needs go beyond you and your close friends, it may be time to invest in a mid-range speaker that will provide enough sound to keep the party going, while still being portable enough to take with you to the next party of the night.

Bose’s SoundLink Bluetooth Speaker III is a perfect mix of high-quality, loud audio output and small sized portability…. Read the rest of this post here

Apple’s News app to feature content from more than 50 publishers at launch

apple news 1

Apple’s upcoming News app will feature content from more than 50 publishers, reports Recode. That’s up significantly from the 18 it had commitments from in June, when the app was introduced, suggesting that Apple has been busy these last few months promoting the new platform.

For those that missed the WWDC unveiling, the News app is a Flipboard-like application coming to iPhones and iPads in iOS 9. The goal of the app is to present users with curated news stories and other interesting content through a beautiful UI that makes the experience more enjoyable…. Read the rest of this post here

Review: WatchWeb for Apple Watch kinda brings web browsing to your wrist

WatchWeb 1.0 for iOS Apple Watch screenshot 002

Like the Apple TV, your Apple Watch lacks the built-in Safari browser. Even though the case can be made quite easily for surfing the web on a big screen TV from the comfort of your couch, who in their right mind—and why— would want to squint at the tiny screen to read webpages?

No one, that’s right. But still, what if you could browse the web from your wrist? If you argue that an Apple Watch web browser is a terrible, terrible idea, I’m with you.

But what if there was a way to quickly look up information, sports scores or anything else on the Apple Watch that Siri can’t do for you? Enter WatchWeb, a web browser of sorts for the Apple Watch by Conifer Apps.

It’s a novel idea that certainly has legs, but boy is it iffy. I had mixed results during my hands-on time with WatchWeb so read on my review for the full reveal…. Read the rest of this post here
